Indianapolis, Ind.- The UIC men's basketball team suffered a 73-57 loss at No. 14/15 Butler inside Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Josh Mayo scored 19 to lead the Flames (10-10, 4-5 Horizon League).
Scott VanderMeer scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Bulldogs (19-2, 8-2 Horizon League) went on a 12-0 run early in the first half to build a lead it would not relinquish. Butler shot 68 percent (17-for-25) in the opening period to take a 43-30 lead into halftime.
UIC would get within eight on two separate occasions in the second half, but the Flames could get no closer.
Matt Howard scored a game-high 20 points for Butler.
The Flames return home this Thursday, Jan. 31 to face Cleveland State at the UIC Pavilion. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m.
