Green Bay, Wis. - Despite a career-high 23 points from Briana Hinkle, the UIC women's basketball team was edged by Green Bay on Saturday night at Kress Center, 75-60.
The Flames fall to 6-12 overall and 2-5 in league play, while the Phoenix move to 15-4 on the season and 7-1 in conference action.
Hinkle was 11-for-18 from the field and swiped a team-best three steals. Sophomore Jessie Miller added 13 points on the night, including three three-pointers. Freshman Shanice Sadler tallied six points, while junior Nikki Grobbecker pulled down a team-best five rebounds.
Five Green Bay players scored in double-figures with junior Erin Templin leading the charge with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Rachel Porath owned a team-high 17 points, followed by senior Kayla Groh (14), junior Kati Harty (11) and junior Lavesa Grover (10).
After Green Bay drained the first bucket of the game, UIC forced five turnovers and held the Phoenix to zero points in the first four minutes. Green Bay posted a 17-2 run, but the Flames regained the lead with a 17-9 burst (27-26) with 6:10 remaining in the first half.
The Phoenix answered and reclaimed the advantage at the break on a 10-5 run, 36-32. Hinkle was 6-for-10 from the field, totaling a team-best 13 points. Sadler tied her season-best with two three-pointers in the first 20 minutes of action.
UIC quickly knotted up the game early with four straight points after halftime. The Phoenix heated up offensively at the 11:00 mark and took the lead for good.
Green Bay shot 54.2 percent from the field in the second half and drained four treys to capture its seventh league victory (75-60).
UIC returns to the Pavilion to welcome Wright State and Detroit next week on Thurs., Jan. 31 and Sat., Feb. 2.
