Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's basketball team begins its 27th season inside the UIC Pavilion this Wednesday, Nov. 19 with the Flames' home opener against UNI.

Tip-off between the Flames (0-1) and the Panthers (1-0) is set for 7 p.m. Central.

The game will be aired live on Lakeshore Public Television and will be available to watch on ESPN Full Court, ESPN360.com and the Horizon League Network using the Lakeshore feed. Joe Arredondo and Kenny McReynolds will don the headsets for the telecast.

The Flames' home opener is also the first radio broadcast of the year on WIND 560 AM, with Adam Levinson calling the action and UIC great Kenny Williams providing expert analysis. The audio is also available to listen to on uicflames.com.

On Wednesday fans are encouraged to join the Flames for a Pep Rally in the Lecture Center Plaza on campus from noon until 2 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to win free Flames stuff, meet the men's and women's basketball teams, dance team, cheerleaders, pep band, other UIC teams and more as part of the UIC Pride Events during Melafusic Week leading up to this Saturday's home game versus DePaul.

Fans can also take part in the "Famous Apparel Trade-In Promotion" at the Pavilion prior to the UIC-UNI game by bringing in any other college or university apparel and trading it in for free UIC gear.

The Flames face a Missouri Valley Conference foe for the second straight contest after opening the 2008-09 campaign with a 67-61 road loss at Bradley on Nov. 14. Sophomore guard Robo Kreps led all scorers with a career-high 24 points.

Kreps has averaged 17.7 points in his last three games dating back to last season, shooting 11-for-22 from three-point range in that span.

Senior center Scott VanderMeer had a strong season debut as well, posting his ninth career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go with four blocked shots against the Braves. Those four swatted attempts put VanderMeer at 200 career blocks in a UIC uniform and add to his career school record in the category.

Wednesday is a rematch of last season's BracketBusters game in Cedar Falls, Iowa, a contest the Flames won by a 70-58 decision.

The Pavilion has a new look for the 2008-09 season, with a new jumbo video board, a new ribbon board and a refinished court adding to the premium aesthetic value inside the Flames' home arena. UIC went 12-2 at home last year and hopes to start another season of Pavilion success this week.
