Josh Mayo Named Horizon League Player Of The Week

Chicago, Ill.- UIC senior guard Josh Mayo (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville H.S.) was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 23, the league office announced on Monday, Nov. 24.

Mayo averaged 25.0 ppg in two games last week, pouring in a season- and game-high 27 points in the Flames' victory over UNI on Nov. 19 and scoring a game-high 23 points in UIC's contest against DePaul on Nov. 22.

He shot 53.8 percent (14-for-26) from the floor and 40.0 percent (6-for-15) from behind the three-point arc while going a perfect 16-for-16 from the free throw line during the two contests.

In addition to his scoring, Mayo averaged 4.0 assists per game and turned in a career-high six steals against the Blue Demons.

For the season Mayo, the 2008-09 Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year, is averaging a league-leading 21.0 ppg.

The honor is the fourth Horizon League Player of the Week award in Mayo's career.

Mayo and the Flames are in Washington, D.C. to play Howard at Burr Gymnasium this Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. Central. The game will be broadcast live on WIND 560 AM.
