Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team kicked off its five-match homestand with an impressive sweep (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) over Butler on Friday night at the Flames Athletic Center.
Casie Sullivan and Katerina Hanackova each recorded their second straight double-double in UIC's solid victory over the Bulldogs.
Overall, Sullivan led the Flames with 14 kills, 18 digs and a career-high .591 attack percentage.
Katarina Nedeljkovic took over sole possession of seventh place in the UIC career record book with a season-best four service aces.
UIC held Butler's Angie Porche, one of the Horizon League's top offensive players, to just nine kills on the night.
The Flames (12-14, 5-8) set the tempo with an early 7-3 lead to open the match. Butler (18-8, 8-6) recovered with an 11-7 run to tie the set at 14 each. Following several ties, the Flames found themselves knotted at 24 before a Butler attack error and a kill from UIC's Lana Lobdell captured the 25-23 set one victory.
The Bulldogs went on a 7-3 burst in the second set to take a two-point lead after trailing early. Down by three late in the frame (20-17), the Flames switched gears and sparked an 8-5 run for the two-set advantage heading into the 10-minute break.
The third set was controlled by the Flames until late in the frame. One point shy of the match victory, the Bulldogs refused to go quietly with five straight, but Porshia sealed the sweep for UIC with an attack error (25-22).
UIC resumes play on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they welcome Valparaiso at 4 p.m. at the Flames Athletic Center.
