Men's Basketball's Winning Streak Snapped At Detroit

Feb. 14, 2008

Box Score

Detroit, Mich.- The UIC men's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped in a 68-60 loss to Detroit at Calihan Hall on Thursday night.

Rookie guard Robert Kreps scored 15 points off the bench on 6-for-8 shooting from the field to lead the Flames (14-11, 8-6 Horizon League). Jermaine Dailey added a career-high 13 points.

The host Titans (6-18, 2-12 Horizon League) shot 53.8 percent (14-for-26) from the floor in the second half and used an 18-1 run in the middle of the final stanza to turn a five-point deficit into a 12-point advantage.

After Detroit went up by as many as 13 with seven minutes remaining, the Flames would claw within six at the 2:34 mark. But Zach Everingham's deep three as the shot clock expired near the two-minute mark proved to be a back-breaker for UIC.

Jon Goode scored all 22 of his points in the second half to lead Detroit.

UIC's defensive effort in the first half was much better than its post-intermission showing. The Flames held the Titans without a basket for nearly six and a half minutes in the latter part of the half.

But the Flames' offense was not much better, as UIC mustered just five points during Detroit's drought. With UIC nursing a two-point lead, Detroit's Josh Semarco hit a three with just over 30 seconds remaining in the opening period to send the Titans to a 27-26 halftime lead.

UIC heads to Dayton to face Wright State inside the Nutter Center this Saturday at 6 p.m. Central.
