Bowling Green, Ohio - The UIC women's tennis team opened the 2008 season with a loss on the road against perennial MAC powerhouse Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon.

The trio of Ilinca Cristescu, Kristen McPhillips and Suzanna Gracanin all debuted for the Flames against the Falcons, with sophomore McPhillips gutting through a 10-8 tiebreaker to claim the sole victory for UIC.

Cristescu, a freshman, played a tight match at the first singles position, taking the first set 6-3. She lost the second set 6-3, and could not pull out the win in the tiebreaker, falling 11-9 in the final set.

The Flames take on the Toledo Rockets tomorrow at 10 a.m.
