Chicago, Ill.- Josh Mayo scored 18 of his game-high 21 points in the second half as UIC held on for a 60-55 Horizon League victory over crosstown rival Loyola at the Gentile Center on Saturday night.

The victory gives the Flames (13-10, 7-5 Horizon League) their third consecutive win while snapping a three-game winning streak for the host Ramblers (9-15, 5-8 Horizon League).

The Flames led most of the game, taking their largest lead after Mayo hit a three with 47 seconds left in the opening period to put UIC up 28-17 heading into halftime.

Loyola twice pulled within three points late in the second stanza, the last time on Andy Polka's tip-in to cut UIC's margin to 50-47 with 3:08 left.

Spencer Stewart answered with a three-pointer, and the Flames went 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 1:09 to hold on for the victory.

Karl White Jr. had 11 points off the bench, while Scott VanderMeer pulled down 14 rebounds.

Leon Young was the only Rambler to score in double figures with 12 points.

The Flames are back home this Monday night as they host Valparaiso at the UIC Pavilion at 7 p.m.
