Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team dropped Cleveland State, 93-80, on Thursday night at the Pavilion.
Taylor Manley scored a team- and season-high 19 points. The guard totaled a team-best six assists and drained three treys on the night. Jessie Miller added 17 points, followed by Meghan Hutchens with a career-high 16. Hutchens also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Trailing by one early in the first half, UIC (10-18, 6-11) hit seven straight points to gain a six-point lead (14-8). The Flames extended its lead into double-digits on a jumper from Hutchens with 11:12 on the clock. Cleveland State (15-13, 9-8) hit two straight buckets to get within eight points at the 5:40 mark, but UIC sparked a 17-9 run to head into halftime with a 47-29 advantage.
Shooting 61.5 percent from the field in the second half, the Flames led by 20 points or more until Kailey Klein hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 19 at the 12:08 mark. Cleveland State got within 15 points with 11:28 remaining in regulation, but UIC recorded nine straight points to capture its largest lead of 26.
The Vikings battled back with a 21-5 run in the next six minutes to trail by ten points with 3:59 on the clock. Cleveland State got within eight points on four occasions late in the game, but UIC tightened up on defense and continued to produce offensively for the win.
Klein led the Vikings with 28 points. Dominique Butler added 11 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
With four three-pointers against Cleveland State, Miller now owns tenth in the UIC career record book with 93 three-point field goals. The sophomore also jumped into fifth place in the UIC single-season record book with 56 treys. After totaling two blocks against CSU, Cassie Johnson is now tied for eighth place in the UIC single-season record book with 38 blocks.
UIC concludes regular season action on Saturday against Youngstown State at the Pavilion. Senior Day will be celebrated prior to tipoff at 3 p.m. CST.
