Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team fell to Youngstown State, 71-62, in its final regular season game on Saturday afternoon at the Pavilion.
The Flames (10-19, 6-12) will host the first round of the Horizon League Tournament on Monday, March 10 at 7 p.m. Their opponent is yet to be determined and will be announced when the tournament bracket is released.
Jessie Miller led the Flames with 21 points. Miller was 8-for-12 from the field and drained five three-pointers against the Penguins. Junior Nikki Grobbecker pulled down a team-best eight boards.
The game remained tight until UIC sparked an 8-2 burst to lead by seven points with 7:59 left in the first half. YSU (13-16, 8-10) answered with 13 straight points. The Penguins headed into halftime with a ten-point advantage (31-21).
UIC chipped away at the deficit in the second half. The Flames tied the score at 51-51 on a 13-6 run. Miller gave UIC a one-point lead on a trey with 5:39 on the clock. The game knotted one more time before Youngstown State recorded a 13-4 run in the final five minutes for the win.
Heather Karner paced YSU with 23 points, while Tiara Scott totaled a game-high 10 boards.
