Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team fell to Northwestern in three sets (19-25, 21-25, 18-25) on Friday afternoon at the Chicagoland Challenge hosted by Loyola.
The Flames will face DePaul in the consolation match at the Gentile Center on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Christin Hunt paced UIC's offense with eight kills and a .400 attack percentage. Katerina Hanackova recorded 11 digs, while Lana Lobdell and Hunt each picked up a block.
NU's Brittani Gray led the squad with 10 kills. Kate Nobilio registered 18 digs on the afternoon.
The two teams went point-for-point before the Wildcats took a 21-11 advantage on an 11-1 run in the first-half of set one. The Flames refused to go quietly, sparking a 7-2 burst late in the frame to get within five points. Northwestern bounced back after a timeout to clinch the first set (25-19) with a .375 attack percentage.
Trailing by four points, UIC evened the score in the second set at 18-18 on a kill by Lobdell. The Flames knotted the set one more time before NU recorded a 5-1 run (25-21) to take a 2-0 lead.
Despite an early advantage in the third set, Northwestern turned on the heat in the final frame to capture the match victory, 25-18.
