Youngstown, Ohio - The UIC volleyball team snapped Youngstown State's three-match winning streak on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over the Penguins on the road.
Three UIC players recorded double-doubles on the night. Katerina Hanackova led UIC with 17 kills and 19 digs. The junior posted a season-high .371 attack percentage against the Penguins.
Tasha Reed totaled a team-high 13 kills for Youngstown State.
Leading 8-5 in set one, the Flames turned on the heat and recorded six straight points to gain momentum. UIC continued its offensive firepower to take a 1-0 lead (25-14). The Flames totaled 18 kills and posted a .455 attack percentage in set one.
Set two was a tight battle before the Flames sparked a 7-1 run to take a 10-5 advantage. Youngstown State tied the set midway through the frame with a 9-4 burst, forcing UIC to take a timeout. Tied at 25-25, the Penguins recorded three straight points to even the score (25-22).
UIC took an early 14-10 lead in set three. YSU got within one point on four occasions before the Katarina Nedeljkovic captured the set victory on a kill (25-23).
The Flames wrapped up a successful offensive showing with a .278 attack percentage in the fourth set. Youngstown State could only cut the deficit to three points before UIC sealed the match victory with a 25-20 win in set four.
UIC faces Cleveland State on Saturday at 1 p.m. CST.
