CAPE GIRADEAU, MO. - For the second straight week, the UIC women's gymnastics team ran into a hot opponent competing in its home opener as Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State used a season-high score to top the Flames, 194.700-192.550.

Junior DeAvera Todd claimed UIC's lone individual event title against the Redhawks, winning the vault with a score of 9.825. Todd would also take second in the all-around competition with a score of 38.925, which fell just short of SEMO's Rikara Turner (39.050).

Freshman Andrea Skala continued her solid rookie campaign for the Flames with a pair of second place finishes on the bars (9.750) and beam (9.675). Sarah Murray gave UIC its other podium finish, tying for second on the vault with a 9.80.

UIC will return to the friendly confines of the Physical Education Building for its next meet as the Flames square off with Ohio State on Saturday, January 24 at 5 p.m.
