DETROIT- The UIC men's basketball team is in the Motor City to begin a stretch of four consecutive road contests this Thursday, Jan. 22 against Detroit inside Calihan Hall.
Tip-off between the Flames (9-8, 2-5 Horizon League) and the Titans (4-12, 0-7 Horizon League) is slated for 6:30 p.m. The game will air live on 560 AM WIND, with Adam Levinson describing the action on the court and UIC legend Kenny Williams adding expert analysis.
UIC will seek to get back on track in the Horizon League race with 11 regular season conference contests remaining. Not only does Thursday's game at Detroit start a four-game road trip for the Flames, but it resumes a string of six of eight games away from the Pavilion.
Sophomore forward Tori Boyd has been a bright spot for the Flames of late, leading the team in the last four games with 13.0 ppg.
Senior guard Josh Mayo continues to pace the Horizon League in scoring with 17.4 ppg. Mayo has also been averaging 4.3 assists in his last seven games.
Fresh off a single-season career-high seventh double-double against No. 16 Butler this past Saturday, senior center Scott VanderMeer will seek his third straight double-digit rebounding effort. But the 7-footer, who leads the league in rebounding (9.1 rpg) and blocks (2.7 bpg), will have the rare opportunity of tangling with a player taller than him when VanderMeer matches up against Detroit's 7-foot-3 Jason Bennett.
