Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team continued its home court success with a 71-57 victory over Milwaukee on Thursday night at the UIC Pavilion.
All five of UIC's starters scored in double figures with Jessie Miller leading the pack with 15 points. Jasmine Bailey chipped in 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Cassie Johnson, Meghan Hutchens and Shameia Green each totaled 10 points apiece.
The Flames held Milwaukee's Traci Edwards to just 14 points and seven rebounds.
"It was nice to get back on track tonight," said head coach Lisa Ryckbosch. "I was a little disappointed how we didn't take care of the ball in the first half, but we came out and fixed the problem in the final 20 minutes."
UIC (10-6, 4-2) sparked a 15-7 run midway through the first half to take its largest lead of nine points. Milwaukee (7-10, 2-4) drained four straight late in the half to get within five, but Bailey hit a jumper with 57 seconds on the clock to give the Flames a 34-27 advantage at the half.
The Flames exploded offensively in the opening minutes of the second half with 16-9 burst. Following a timeout Milwaukee went on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to just four points with 7:23 left in regulation.
UIC regrouped and connected on its next five buckets to regain a double-digit lead. Edwards got the Panthers within nine points on two free throws with 4:40 on the clock, but that would be as close as Milwaukee would get as the Flames cruised to a 71-57 win.
UIC heads to Ohio next week to face Youngstown State and Cleveland State on Jan. 29 and 31.
