Men's Basketball Faces Youngstown State In League Championship Opener

CHICAGO- The UIC men's basketball team will meet Youngstown State in the opening round of the 2009 Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship this Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Central, the league office officially announced along with the unveiling of the tournament bracket on the evening of Feb. 28.

The seventh-seeded Flames (15-14, 7-11 Horizon League) and the sixth-seeded Penguins (11-18, 7-11 Horizon League) will meet inside the Beeghly Center.

The game will be broadcast live on 560 WIND AM. Adam Levinson and UIC legend Kenny Williams will be courtside to call the action. All 2009 UIC men's basketball postseason broadcasts on WIND are proudly sponsored by Connie's Pizza.

Fans will also be able to watch on the Horizon League Network.

UIC brings a four-game winning streak into Tuesday's opening round game, averaging 74.0 ppg during that string of victories. The Flames have also won five of their last six contests.

Tuesday's game will be the third meeting between the two teams this season, with Youngstown State coming out victorious on both occasions.

This marks the second straight season that UIC and Youngstown State will meet in an opening round game in the league championship tourney. The Flames defeated the Penguins, 70-59, last March at the UIC Pavilion.
