CHICAGO- The Flames volleyball team was handed a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) loss at the hands of Central Michigan at the Flames Athletic Center Tuesday evening.
The Chippewas (4-3) jumped out to an early lead in set one, taking it 25-14, and didn't give the Flames (4-8) a chance to get back into the match. Central Michigan kept it up in set two, taking a 25-17 win.
The Flames showed signs of pushing back in set three, pushing to within three points of Central Michigan at two points in the game, but could never take the lead. The Chippewas came away with the 25-17 win and the match.
"Central Michigan came in and just outworked us," Flames head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley said. "It's disappointing to not play well on your home court. We have some changes to make before conference."
Kelsey Safranek led the Flames with eight kills on the night. Casie Sullivan had seven, and Jessica Dalke dished out 19 assists on the evening.
UIC opens Horizon League play this weekend, hosting Milwaukee Saturday and Green Bay Sunday at the Flames Athletic Center. Saturday's contest is set for 4 p.m., and the Green Bay match will start at 2 p.m.
