2009 Scholarship Classic a Success For UIC Athletics

Sept. 4, 2009

BOLINGBROOK, Ill.- The 16th annual UIC Athletics Scholarship Classic was again a success, with 134 golfers taking to the links at the Bolingbrook Golf Club Sept. 3. The annual event raises $100,000 for the UIC athletic scholarship fund.

The event, sponsored by Credit Union 1 and American Family Insurance, was won by the foursome of Al Ronan, Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar, Tim Dart and Ed Burke. Mike McKenzie won the closest to the pin competition, while Phyllis MCGlynn took top honors for the longest putt on the day. The longest drive winner for the male golfers was Jeff Garcia, while Courtney Shea took the honors for the females.

UIC athletics gives special thanks to Mark Donovan, the chair of the event, Jim McGlynn of McWilliams Electric for bringing out five foursomes, Ed Swietek of Kroeschell for sponsoring two foursomes and donating the prize grill and Loren Tayor of UIAA.
