CHICAGO - The late game heroics continued for the UIC men's soccer team Wednesday night, as junior Eric Frazier scored the game's lone goal with just over 10 minutes remaining, lifting the Flames to their second-straight shutout win, 1-0 over visiting Eastern Illinois in a non-conference contest at Flames Field.
Frazier's goal (79:48) was his first since Sept. 26 against Detroit, but sealed his fourth point in the past four games. Paul Tracy and Alex Rickett combined to assist on the goal, leading to Frazier's left-footed finish from about 10 yards out.
"Eric is the type of frontrunner that if you give him chances, he can really be clinical," said UIC head coach Sean Phillips. "He had a couple of great opportunities tonight, a couple of which were just blocked. He came up big for us, and his finish was a frontrunner's finish."
Senior goalkeeper Steve Purdy preserved his second-straight shutout decision, and his fourth of the season. The Flames had a flurry of offensive chances, out-shooting the Panthers 10-7, including six shots on goal. UIC also held a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.
"Steve has really had a good last couple of games," Phillips said. "He's managing the team well, and his back line has really helped pick him up. He's grown a lot this season, and is starting to realize that his focus is very important to the success of our team."
Three of Frazier's four shots were on goal, and Joe Radice added three shots. Phil Galounis, Nermin Dautovic and Slobodan Aleksov each chipped in with one shot for the Flames. Each of UIC's last four wins have been shutouts, dating back to Oct. 3 versus Wright State.
UIC (6-9, 2-4 Horizon) will head to Valparaiso, Ind., Sunday to face the Crusaders (7-7-2, 1-5 Horizon) in a key Horizon League battle. Kickoff from Eastgate Field is set for 6 p.m. CST.
