CHICAGO- A rough second half doomed the UIC men's basketball team in an 80-63 loss to crosstown rival Loyola on Saturday night.
K.C. Robbins, who battled a severe flu bug the day before that prevented him from practicing, scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Flames (6-19, 2-13 Horizon League). Zavion Neely added 13 and Chris Buchanan scored 10 off the bench.
Robo Kreps scored eight and became the 20th player in school history with 1,000 career points, needing just six entering the game to achieve the milestone.
Geoff McCammon scored a game-high 26 for the Ramblers (14-11, 5-10 Horizon League).
After shooting 47.8 percent (11-for-23) in a close first half that saw the Ramblers take a two-point lead into the break, the Flames shot 33.3 percent (11-for-33) in the final 20 minutes and were outscored 45-30 in that span.
The Ramblers, on the other hand, shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) in the second to put the game out of reach.
Loyola's lead was down to one early in the second before the Ramblers went on a 15-4 run that put their lead to double figures, where it would stay for most of the half.
The Flames led by as many as four early in the first period but went on a dry spell that lasted over seven minutes, allowing the Ramblers to lead by seven before UIC chipped away with a 7-2 run before halftime.
UIC heads to Indianapolis this Wednesday to face nationally-ranked Butler at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
