DETROIT, Mich. - The UIC women's tennis team continued their dominance over Horizon League opponents, defeating Detroit 6-1 on Sunday at the Franklin Athletic Center.

The team of Kristen McPhillips and Mariya Kovaleva swept their match against Amanda Cornwell and Carolina Espinosa, clinching the doubles point for the Flames.

Amy Jellish and Jenna Reisch were alos victorious in their doubles match, defeating Erin Weldon and Melanie Capuano 8-1.

In singles competition, wins by Elena Antakova, Kovaleva, and Jellish sealed the 116 straight victory against Horizon League foes.

Antakova started UIC off, taking down Svetlana Flankova in two straight sets. Antakova took set one 6-3 and then finished Flankova in set two 6-1.

Kovaleva added another win at the one seeded match, besting Espinosa 6-4 in set one and 6-1 in set two to earn the match win.

Jellish claimed the match winning point for the Flames with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Weldon at the five seeded match.

Illinca Cristescu and Reisch were also victorious in their singles matches for UIC.

The Flames will host Horizon League opponent Youngstown State on Saturday April 3 at the UIC Outdoor Courts. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
