CHICAGO - Former UIC softball player Tricia Charbonneau has moved off the diamond to find success in a new athletic venture as a member of the Independent Women's Football League's Chicago Force.
The Force and Charbonneau, six-year veteran and team captain, were recently featured in a RedEye story by Eric Johnson.
Charbie, as her teammates call her, talked in the story about her desire to continue to compete.
"After playing as a division I athlete you look for something engaging to do instead of playing in the bar league," said Charbonneau. "Some girls I was playing flag football with were playing on the Force and encouraged me to try out for the team. I came out and got hooked immediately," she said.
Charbonneau, a linebacker, and her teammates will get the 2010 season underway when they host the Wisconsin Warriors on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Force plays their home games at Winnemac Stadium in Chicago (5105 N. Leavitt, Chicago, IL 60625).
