CHICAGO - The UIC women's tennis defeated Horizon League opponent Cleveland State 6-1 on Sunday at the UIC Outdoor Courts, to make it six straight match wins.
The doubles team of Mariya Kovaleva and Kristen McPhillips ended Catrine Bjerrehus and Charlotte Gibbons 11 match winning streak with an 8-4 win in the number one seeded doubles match.
The Flames finished doubles play with a perfect three-for-three record, sealing the doubles point for the match.
McPhillips earned a point for UIC with a three set match win over Charlotte Gibbons. McPhillips dropped set one 6-2, but stormed back winning sets two and three by the score of 6-2.
Elena Antakova defeated Nicole Janek in comeback fashion as well, dropping the first set 6-3. Antakova dominated in the second and third sets, winning both sets by the same score of 6-1.
Amy Jellish dropped the first set in her singles match against Sanda Bjelan, but powered back to win set two 6-3 and set three 10-4, to earn the three set victory over Bjelan.
Kovaleva and Ilinca Cristescu continued their perfect careers over Horizon League foes, winning their singles' matches on Sunday.
The Flames will take Horizon League opponent Valparaiso on Saturday April 10 on the road. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
