CHICAGO - The UIC volleyball squad was unable to find a rhythm as it fell to the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday night in the championship match of the Chicagoland Challenge, 3-0 (10-25, 7-25, 9-25).
The Flames (1-1) committed 23 hitting errors on the night and were unable to find a consistent tempo against the Big Ten's Wildcats (2-0). On the flip side, Northwestern was nearly flawless all night long as they were charged with just four miscues in the championship match, including zero in the final set.
"I'm disappointed with the effort level of the team," said UIC head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley after the match. "We need to get back to work on Monday and get ready for this weekend."
Kelsey Safranek and Jessica Dalke led the Flames with four kills apiece. Dalke also added five digs and a team-high 12 assists.
UIC's Casie Sullivan was named to the All-Tournament Team. She tallied a team-high eight digs on Saturday, while adding 21 total kills in two matches.
The Flames will open the home schedule next weekend as they host the UIC Invitational at the UIC Pavilion. On Friday, Sept. 3rd UIC will take on Memphis at 7:00 p.m. following a tilt between Northern Illinois and Kennesaw State at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Flames will host Kennesaw State at 10:00 a.m. and take on the in-state rival NIU Huskies at 7:00 p.m.
