CHICAGO - The UIC soccer team would climb back from two-goal deficit midway through the second half, but were unable to overcome a quick turnaround goal from Detroit, falling to the Titans, 3-2, at Flames Field on Sunday afternoon.

"Another tough loss to swallow at home," said head coach Sean Phillips. " While we created opportunities for ourselves to make plays in the attacking part of the field, Detroit made the plays they needed to make."

With only a scant number of shots for either side half way through the first period, the Flames (2-5-0, 0-2-0 Horizon) would be unable to convert the first of two penalty kicks on the outing, forcing the Titans' (2-5-1, 1-1-0 Horizon) goalie, Brandon Waterstradt, to save an attempt from Ivan Stanisavljevic to keep the scoreboard barren.

But Detroit's Ya Ya Toure would move the ball up the field, creating an opportunity for Otieno Victor to put the visitors up by a goal. Victor would then be credited with an assist upon Sam Seppo's shot to give Detroit a 2-0 advantage nearing halftime.

As the clock wound down, Eric Frazier moved along the right side of the field and placed the ball perfectly for Derek Huffman, hammering his third goal of the year into the center of the net at the 44th minute to cut into the Titans lead, 2-1.

"Over the course of the last four games, we've started to create a lot of chances to score," said Phillips. "But at the expense of giving up too many looks for our opponents."

After a high penalty kick attempt from Huffman, Huffman and Frazier would switch roles in the 62nd minute of the second, as a feed from Huffman would grant Frazier a good opportunity from the left side of the box, leveling things at 2-2.

The Titans would answer back nearly instantaneously, as Adam Bedell snuck a shot past Flames' keeper Steve Purdy for the go-ahead goal for a 3-2 Titans eventual margin of victory.

"Unfortunately, as we become more solidified in the attack, the coaching staff has not addressed the issue of untimely goals," said Phillips. "That's something we will address in the next couple of days."

"The coaches have to go back to the drawing board and take a hard look at what we've been doing in training and how we are going to address the defensive side of the ball," said Phillips.

UIC will close out their home stand with an out-of-league bout with visiting SIU-Edwardsville on Thursday night at 7 p.m. before jumping back into league action at Wright State on Sunday, October 3rd at 2:30 p.m. CST.
