MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The UIC volleyball team fell in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-17) decision Tuesday to Milwaukee at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee, Wis. For the third-consecutive match, junior
Kelsey Safranek (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led all players in kills. She hammered down 17 kills in the match.
"We had opportunities to score during the match, but it is crucial that we capitalize on those moments," head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley says. "The UIC volleyball team has to get back to work and continue to improve each day in the gym."
The Flames (11-6/4-2 in the Horizon League) were unable to continue their winning streak as the Milwaukee Panthers (14-4/7-0 in the Horizon League) led in hitting percentage with a clip of .246 in comparison to .161 and blocks with 24 to UIC's 10. Redshirt captain Janise Dismuke (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) added nine kills in the match at .381.
In the first set, the Flames trailed Milwaukee 11-17, but the UIC squad battled back and got the score within one point at 16-17, which included back-to-back kills by Dismuke. Despite the effort, UIC dropped 21-25 to the Panthers.
UIC came out in the second set and fought for each point as the two teams went back and forth through the entire match. The Flames went on a three-point run near the end of the match, but Milwaukee claimed the set in a 25-23 decision and improved their lead to 2-0 in the match.
In the third set, Safranek logged three-consecutive kills, which were all set up by sophomore captain MaryKate Imrie (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg). The Flames dropped to the Panthers 17-25 in the third set, which clinched the win for the Milwaukee squad.
The Flames return to action Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. (CT) match against Youngstown State at the Flames Athletic Center in Chicago, Ill. Fans can follow live stats and the live video stream, which can be found at UICFlames.com.
