CHICAGO - The UIC volleyball team fell in straight sets (23-25, 17-25, 20-25) to Cleveland State Sunday at the Flames Athletic Center in Chicago, Ill. Redshirt junior Nicole Allgood (Crestwood, Ky./South Oldham) knocked down 10 kills at a clip of .333 to lead the Flames in hitting percentage.
"We have to find a way to capitalize and get points when we have opportunities," head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley said. "Heading into the second half of Horizon League play, we have to work hard each day in the gym in order to secure one of the six spots in the tournament."
The Flames (12-7/5-3 in the Horizon League) were led in kills by junior Kelsey Safranek (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) as she had 12 in the match against the Vikings (13-5/6-1 in the Horizon League).
Aubrey Sniegowski (Lemont, Ill./Lemont Township) led off the first set with back-to-back kills. The squads traded points through the entirety of the set, before the Vikings went on a 5-2 run to down the UIC squad 25-23.
In the second set, Safranek knocked down a kill and would go on to earn three in the second set, but Cleveland State held off the Flames with a six-point run to conclude the match in a 17-25 outcome and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Allgood picked up five of her 10 kills in the third set of the match, but the Vikings capitalized and closed out the match with a 25-20 victory to secure the match.
The Flames return to action Friday in a 7:00 p.m. (CT) match against Valparaiso at the Flames Athletic Center in Chicago, Ill. Fans can follow live stats and the live video stream, which can be found at UICFlames.com.
