DEKALB, Ill. - Senior Jasmine Bailey sank a game-winning layup with one second left on the clock, securing the 49-47 victory for UIC at Northern Illinois on Wednesday night. UIC garners its first road win of the season and improves to 5-4 overall. Bailey led the Flames in scoring with 15 points, while sophomore Emily Kobel notched a career-high 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three. NIU was led by freshman Claire Jakubicek with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting.

"It was great to see Jasmine step up and make that play for us," said head coach Regina Miller. "She has been making big plays for us all year. It was also good to see Emily and Taylor (Foulks) hit some outside shots."

The Huskies got off to a strong start and held a convincing 14-6 lead within the first seven minutes of the contest. Jakubicek piloted the first-half Huskie offensive attack with nine points.

The Flames fought their way back and eventually grabbed 15-14 lead at the 8:44 mark compliments of superb three-point shooting, including two from Kobel.

NIU answered back with a 9-1 run over the next three and a half minutes, taking the 23-16 lead with 5:17 remaining in the first half.

UIC battled back with a balanced offensive surge and ended the first stanza on an 8-2 spurt, which included scores from four different Flames' players. The Huskies held a slim 25-23 advantage at the break.

Coming out of the locker room, both teams had their defenses on full display with a mere six points scored between the two squads in the first four minutes of the second half.

From that point, NIU took control with more scoring from Jakubicek and held a 36-29 advantage with 12:06 left in the game.

Just then, Kobel connected on two treys within a 30-second span, igniting an 11-0 run for UIC as they regained the 40-36 lead with 7:32 left in the contest.

Over the next five minutes the score remained tight until junior Taylor Foulks drilled a three-ball with 2:17 on the clock, giving the Flames their largest lead of night, 47-42.

With 1:22 on the ticker, NIU's Jakubicek dropped in a layup and brought the score to 47-44.

After both teams missed scoring opportunities and a Flames turnover, NIU's Satavia Taylor made good on a wide open three with 16 seconds left in the game, knotting the score at 47-47.

Coming out of the UIC timeout, Bailey took control of the ball and muscled her way into the lane, nailing the game-winner with just over one second left on the clock. The Huskie's ensuing attempt at a full court shot was unsuccessful.

The Flames found their outside stroke tonight as they posted a season-high eight three pointers with seven coming from Kobel and Foulks.

The Flames return home for their next outing against Roosevelt on Monday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. CT.
