CHICAGO - The UIC women's gymnastics team (1-0) defeated Northern Illinois, 191.575-188.350 Sunday inside the Convocation Center in DeKalb, Ill., which was nearly a 9.6 average for the Flames squad.
"I thought we were solid," associate head coach Peter Jansson said. "There were no major mistakes on bars and beams. There were some areas that could use some improvement, but it was a very good start to the season, and it looks very promising. It was nice to get our first win in before we head to Florida next weekend."
The Flames placed in the top-two spots in the all-around category with sophomore Catherine Dion (Gatineau, Quebec/Nicolas-Gatineau) claiming the crown with a 38.250 score, followed by senior Andrea Skala (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) in second place with 38.100 total points.
The Flames return to action Friday against Florida in Gainesville, Fla., at 6:00 p.m.
