Imrie Selected as Horizon League's SAAC Vice President

July 17, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS - Junior volleyball player MaryKate Imrie, has recently been selected as the Horizon League's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's (SAAC) Vice President. Just one month ago the Orland Park, Ill., native was also chosen to serve as UIC's SAAC President after completing a one-year term as Vice President.

"I am beyond excited to be a member of the Horizon League SAAC and then becoming an officer has made it even better," said Imrie. "I am looking forward to representing UIC and interacting with all the other schools in the League."

As Vice President, Imrie will work closely with SAAC President Ben Averkamp of Loyola, league representatives and other members of the committee to discuss topics surrounding student-athletes. The group also volunteers their time in the community when they convene for the annual summer meeting in Indianapolis.

Imrie, a nursing major, ranked second in the Horizon League in sets per game (10.9) last season as a sophomore.

A student-athlete advisory committee is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience and to offer input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses. An Association-wide SAAC was adopted by legislation approved at the 1989 NCAA Convention, and was formed primarily to review and offer student-athlete input on NCAA activities and proposed legislation that affected student-athletes.

The mission of the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image.
