CHICAGO - Men's soccer player Ivan Stanisavljevic has earned the inaugural UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week Award for the period of Aug. 20-26. The accolade will be announced every Wednesday throughout the 2012-13 athletic season, honoring the past week's best individual performance. Stanisavljevic racked up three points last weekend with an assist at DePaul on Friday and a goal at Ohio State on Sunday, taking home Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week laurels.
In a 2-1 season-opening loss at DePaul, the senior midfielder assisted on the game's second goal in 71st minute, knotting the score at 1-1. Stanisavljevic connected with junior Zach Kaleta off a corner kick for header five feet in front of the net.
At Ohio State, Stanisavljevic added the insurance goal in the 83rd minute to seal the 2-0 shutout victory over the Buckeyes. The win marked the third-straight triumph over OSU, which includes two road wins.
The reigning Horizon League Offensive Player of the Year will lead the Flames in their final contest of a three-game road swing at Marquette on Friday, before the team's home opener against Georgetown on Sept. 7.
