Final Stats 
ESTERO, Fla. - The UIC men's basketball team (2-4) fell in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Showcase against Louisiana Tech (4-1) by final score of 103-78. The Bulldogs took advantage of 18 UIC turnovers and converted those miscues into 31 points. The Flames await the loser of St. Bonaventure and Wagner for tomorrow's third-place game scheduled to start at 5 p.m. CT.
Louisiana Tech started fast by scoring the first seven points and then building a 21-4 lead just over seven minutes into the contest. The Flames fought back with a 9-4 spurt, cutting the edge down to 25-13, but back-to-back Bulldog threes halted the UIC run. Louisiana Tech ended the first half with 10 points from the foul line in the final three minutes to go ahead 60-36 at the break.
The Bulldogs received great benefit from the charity stripe throughout the night, attempting 43 free throws compared to just 19 for the Flames. UIC was also whistled on 30 occasions contrasted by 20 for Louisiana Tech.
The Flames displayed much better ball control in the second half, committing just six turnovers and received a large boost from their bench with 28 points. The final stanza was a more balanced affair as UIC was slightly edged in total points, 43-42.
Freshman Pat Birt paced UIC in scoring with a career-high 11 points in just 16 minutes of action. He was joined in double figures by senior Jordan Harks with 10 points, followed senior Kelsey Barlow and junior Marc Brown with nine points apiece. Junior Ahman Fells tallied eight points all in the second half, while grabbing a team-high five total rebounds.
In just his second collegiate game, freshman Marcus White gave UIC quality minutes at point guard as he dished off a team-high four assists and committed just one turnover. Freshman Hans-Christian Lauer chipped in a career-high four points, going 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Freshman Markese McGuire tied his career-best with eight points, six coming in the first half.
