CHICAGO - Men's gymnast Brett Valin has been selected as the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Feb. 18-24. Valin broke a school record on the vault this past Saturday at home against No. 6 Minnesota, guiding the Flames to their best team score of the season (409.600).
Against the Gophers, Valin tallied a 14.950 on the vault to capture first-place honors, which bested the second-place score of 14.700. Valin is the first men's gymnast to receive the UICFlames.com award since its inception at the beginning of the 2012-13 athletic season.
UIC looks toward a heavy schedule next weekend, facing No. 12 Air Force twice in three days. The Flames host the Falcons at the Physical Education Building on Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) before welcoming them back on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
