CHICAGO - Chantel Turk has been selected as the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of March 18-24 as announced by the athletic department on Wednesday morning. Turk was also recently named the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Year as she helped guide the UIC women's gymnastics team to a league championship this past weekend.
The Flames picked up their first MIC crown since the 2007-08 season by totaling a season-high score of 195.600. Turk notched a three-way tie for first in the floor exercise with a score of 9.875 and took home third on the vault with a result of 9.850. The Hazelcrest, Ill., native was also named to the All-Conference Scholastic Team for her performance in the classroom.
This past Monday, Turk was selected to compete in the NCAA Regionals in Norman, Okla. as an All-Around competitor. She will be joined by junior teammate Catherine Dion as an All-Around participant.
Turk takes home her second UICFlames.com award after garnering her initial laurel on Feb. 20.
