DENVER - The UIC men's soccer team (5-4-2) suffered a 1-0 loss Friday night to Denver (7-4-1) at CIBER Field. The Flames could not come up with the equalizer after the Pioneers scored the lone goal of the game in the fifth minute.

UIC was held to three shots in the contest with contributions from redshirt-junior Thomas Villamil, junior Manny Chavez and senior Jesus Torres. Denver tallied nine attempts and maintained a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.

It was on the first shot of the game that the Pioneers took and maintained the lead as Kosta Kordistos shot in a pass from Teddy Mullin 20 yards out at the 4:37 mark.

Denver forced sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Putna to make two saves in the following four minutes, while they attempted six total shots in the first half, including a header saved by Putna in the final minute.

A team save by UIC in the opening of the second prevented the Pioneers from scoring again, as Putna came up with his fourth and final save of the night in the 54th minute.

The Flames will return to their Horizon League schedule as they head to Green Bay, Wis., on Wednesday (Oct. 15) to take on the Phoenix at 7 p.m. CT at Santaga Stadium.
