GREEN BAY, Wis. - The UIC men's soccer team (6-4-2, 2-1-1 HL) collected its fifth shutout of the season Wednesday night as it defeated Green Bay (3-7-3, 0-3-1 HL), 3-0, at Santaga Stadium. Freshman Jose Fuentes scored twice in the match, including what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 56th minute, with freshman Roberto Torres and junior Manny Chavez picking up the assists.

The Flames held a 16-8 shot advantage in the match and had 10 of their attempts reach on goal, while they additionally received 11 corner kicks on the night.

The match was held at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play. The Flames fired off eight shots, with three resulting in saves by the Phoenix's keeper Dani Alvarado. Green Bay made five attempts and sophomore Andrew Putna came up with three saves.

UIC had two quality chances in the first few minutes of the second, but it was a sequence of six-consecutive corner kicks that led to the Flames maintaining possession and setting up Fuentes with his third goal of the season, assisted by (Roberto) Torres and Chavez, in the 56th minute for the 1-0 lead.

UIC continued to attack and seven minutes later in the 63rd minute, senior Jesus Torres dribbled down the sideline and took a shot from the left corner of the box to score his third goal of the season and increase the score to 2-0.

After Putna made his fourth and final save of the night, (Jesus) Torres dished the ball to Fuentes, who secured the 3-0 win with his second goal of the game and his fourth of the season in the 88th minute.

Putna's four saves increased his season total to 49 and improved his save percentage to .817. With his fifth shutout this season, Putna now owns a 0.86 goals-against average.

After two weeks away from its home turf, UIC will return to Flames Field on Saturday to host Horizon League-foe Milwaukee at 7 p.m. CT.
