CHICAGO - The UIC women's basketball team (2-0) cruised to a 61-47 victory over Northern Illinois (1-1) Monday night at the UIC Pavilion. UIC, who has won six straight contests dating back to the 2014 Women's Basketball Invitational, last started a season 2-0 in the 2011-12 campaign. The Flames have won five straight matchups with the Huskies.

UIC led by as many as 19 in the second half and held NIU to 28 percent shooting (15-of-54). The Flames have only allowed 28 baskets on 99 attempts (28 percent) this season.

The Flames have held their opponents to a combined 90 points over two games. UIC last held consecutive opponents under 50 points from Jan. 19-21, 2012 against Butler (42) and Valparaiso (43).

UIC out-rebounded the Huskies 45-32 and scored 15 second-chance points. UIC scored 34 points in the paint, compared to NIU's 20.

Redshirt junior Ruvanna Campbell tied her career high with 23 rebounds, including 16 on the defensive end. She also had 23 rebounds at Eastern Michigan (March 24, 2014) during the Quarterfinals of the WBI. Campbell's 23 rebounds are the second highest in program history.

Campbell also added a game-high 15 points, eight assists, three blocks and two steals. She owns six straight double-doubles dating back to last season and 28 in her UIC career. Campbell is on a streak of 19 straight games with double-figure rebounds.

Sophomore Melita Emanuel-Carr poured in 14 points for her second straight double-figure performance and fourth of her career. She was 2-of-5 from downtown and 6-of-11 from the field. Emanuel-Carr also set a career high with seven rebounds.

Sophomore Caitlin Garant scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting for her first double-figure effort since Jan. 3, 2014 against Roosevelt. She has three double-digit performances in her UIC career. Garant also handed out a career-high three assists.

Junior Terri Bender contributed 10 points and five steals. She has ten steals in two games and 148 in her UIC career. She needs 38 more to enter the program's top ten.

Senior Gisselle Truiett set career highs in points (9), rebounds (5) and minutes played (39). She was 3-of-9 from the field and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

NIU scored the first three points of the contest but UIC responded with a 9-0 run. The Huskies took a 16-14 lead on Cassidy Glenn's three-pointer at 10:16 but the Flames regained the lead with an 8-0 run.

UIC went into halftime up 30-22 and scored seven out of the first nine points in the second half to go up 37-24 with 16:09 left to play. The Flames' largest lead of the contest came at 48-29 on two free throws by Truiett with 8:37 left in the game. NIU narrowed the UIC lead to 54-45 with 3:16 left to play but that was the closest the Huskies would get.

UIC is back in action Saturday (Nov. 22) at Miami Ohio (0-0). UIC looks for its second straight win over the RedHawks as the Flames picked up a 76-66 home win last season (Nov. 23, 2013).
