UIC Lettermen's Club Awards Funding to Sport Programs

Dec. 10, 2014

CHICAGO - As part of its mission to support the current student-athletes and their on-campus experience, the newly-formed UIC Lettermen's Club recently awarded funds to multiple sport teams and the athletic training department.

Awarded funds benefited men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and track and field, men's and women's gymnastics, softball, and volleyball. The support will provide such items as replacement equipment, locker room enhancements, and promotional items to encourage attendance at UIC home athletic competitions.

The UIC Lettermen's Club raises money to support its mission primarily through annual membership dues ($30) and proceeds from the Big Ticket Raffle and 50/50 raffle sales at home men's basketball games.

A highlighted project was funding for a NovaTech MVP Recovery System that will benefit all student-athletes in the Flames Athletic Center training room.

"On behalf of the entire athletic training room, we can't thank the Lettermen's Club enough for their generous gift," said head athletic trainer Mike Gilmartin. "This will help ensure that our student-athletes receive excellent care and countless numbers of them will benefit from this unit."

"This grant program is a significant way for the Lettermen's Club to have a positive impact for today's teams and student-athletes," said Lettermen's Club vice president Liz Morelli (Volleyball, '08). "As a former student-athlete, I think giving back is extremely meaningful, and it's one of the many reasons why I am a member of the Lettermen's Club."
