Jay Harris Named Horizon League Player of the Week

Dec. 15, 2014

CHICAGO - UIC basketball standout and fifth-year transfer Jay Harris was named the Horizon League Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 8-14 as announced by the conference office on Monday (Dec. 15) afternoon. Harris guided the Flames to victory this past Thursday by scoring a career-high 32 points in a 71-60 home win against Central Florida.

Harris' 32-point outburst stands as the highest single-game effort in the Horizon League this season and shatters his previous career-best of 23 points. The last UIC player to score 32 or more points at home was two-time All-League guard Josh Mayo who netted 32 against Green Bay on Dec. 8, 2007.

The Aurora, Ill. native shot 9-of-16 (.563) from the field, 4-of-9 (.444) from three-point range and 10-of-12 (.833) from the foul line, notching career-highs in made field goals and free throws.

Harris leads the team in scoring with an average of 16.9 points per game and also paces UIC with 2.1 threes per contest. He has scored in double figures in 10 of his last 11 collegiate games, dating back to his final four games with Wagner.

UIC picks up its first Player of the Week award this season as Harris collects his first career weekly conference accolade.

The Flames (3-7) are back in action tonight as they look to improve their home record to 4-2 against UT-Martin (5-2) at 7 p.m. CT inside the UIC Pavilion.
