CHICAGO – The UIC men’s and women’s gymnastics teams will kick off their respective seasons on Sunday with the annual Mixed Pairs exhibition match held in the UIC Gymnastics Room inside the Physical Education Building. Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
"We are very excited to start the competitive season," women's gymnastics head coach Peter Jansson said. "We have a lot of routines ready to go and it will be interesting to see who is going to step up."
The men’s and women’s teams will be split into co-ed teams, with the men competing on floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar, while the women will compete on vault, uneven bars, beam and floor.
Last year at the event, senior Jason Gaides led for the men, scoring a 13.85 on pommel horse and a 12.90 on high bar. Senior Citlali Cuevas recorded a 9.35 on uneven bars for the women.
Following Mixed Pairs, the men’s and women’s teams will begin the regular season with a home meet against U of I and Northern Illinois, respectively. The dual meet will be held at the UIC Pavilion, with competition beginning at 7 p.m. CT.
