Box Score Video Highlights

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Joe Perricone allowed just six hits and two runs over eight innings against Michigan (27-26-1) at Ray Fisher Stadium Tuesday night but two Wolverine scores in the first frame proved to be the difference maker as UIC (23-23) fell 2-1. Mickey McDonald's RBI double in the ninth inning narrowed the Michigan lead to one but Jeff Boehm struck out to end the contest.

Perricone (2-2) went the distance for the first time in his career. After allowing two runs on two hits in the first, Perricone limited Michigan to four hits over the final seven innings. He walked three batters and struck out two while throwing 91 pitches, 55 of them for strikes.

Tyler Detmer reached base three times with two singles and a walk. John Coen also had two hits and a walk while scoring the Flames' lone run.

Coen doubled down the right field line to lead off the game but was thrown out at second on McDonald's fielder's choice. Alex Lee moved McDonald to second base with a single through the left side and advanced to third on a wild pitch with two outs. Boehm's groundout to first base ended the Flames' threat.

Detmer, Cody Bohanek, Alex Jurich and Zenon Kolakowski reached base over the next four innings but were stranded. Boehm and Detmer singled in the sixth but were stranded when Conor Philbin grounded out to second. Coen singled with two outs in the seventh but McDonald struck out to end the inning. Lee and Detmer walked in the eighth inning but were left on when Philbin grounded out.

Coen walked with two outs in the ninth inning and McDonald brought him home with his sixth double of the season. McDonald advanced to third on Travis Maezes' throwing error and Lee walked to put runners on the corners. Boehm drew a 3-2 count but struck out swinging to end the game.

UIC returns to Chicago for its final homestand of the 2014 season this weekend (May 15-17). The Flames play host to Horizon League member Oakland (10-30, 5-16 HL) for a three-game series starting Thursday.

UIC is 16-11 in conference play and has clinched the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League Tournament. The Golden Grizzlies occupy sixth place in the conference standings.
