UIC Student-Athletes Go Through Commencement Services

CHICAGO - Thirty-five student-athletes representing 17 varsity sports received their bachelor's degrees from UIC at the completion of the 2013-14 academic year. The graduation ceremonies, held at the UIC Pavilion, honored students graduating either at the conclusion of the spring semester or summer session.

The Flames' men's cross country/track & field teams had a combined five student-athletes graduate. The baseball, men's soccer and women's basketball programs boasted the second most graduates with four student-athletes receiving their degrees. The men's soccer team captured the Horizon League regular season title and the women's basketball squad won the WBI Championship.

The men's gymnastics, women's swimming & diving and women's track & field teams saw three student-athletes graduate. Sharon Mwale concluded her career by taking home top honors in the high jump at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships.

The men's swimming & diving, softball and volleyball programs had two student-athletes graduate. Natalie Hernandez has continued her softball career with the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch and Jacki Fletcher capped off her career by being named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team.

The men's basketball, women's tennis and women's gymnastics teams each had one student-athlete graduate. Kelsey Barlow led the men's basketball team in scoring at 14.8 points per game, Kathryn Sharples ended her career with 67 singles wins and Catherine Dion was named the NACGC/W Regional Gymnast of the Year.
