CHICAGO - With the new semester underway, the UIC Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has continued to help Chicago's homeless with its SPARK (Students Performing Acts of Random Kindness) program. In total, SPARK has fed over 60 men and women and provided over 100 winter items to those in need of warmth.
Led by Mitch Granger of the men's tennis team, the group has held multiple events where they prepared meals for the homeless. The student-athlete organization will continue handing out bagged lunches to the homeless during UIC's spring semester.
SPARK also partnered with the Chicago Church of Christ to collect winter clothes for a coat drive. The group collected coats, hats and gloves for the drive, which was held Dec. 27 at a homeless shelter near campus.
