CHICAGO -- Coaches and players from around the Horizon League will descend upon the Hilton Rosemont Chicago O'Hare on Wednesday, October 14, for the conference's annual Men's Basketball Media Day. UIC head coach Steve McClain will be in attendance, along with senior Jake Wiegand and sophomore Tai Odiase.
Media Day begins Wednesday at 1 p.m. with opening remarks delivered by Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone. Availabilities throughout the afternoon will be carried live on ESPN3, including a visit with McClain, Odiase and Wiegand at 4 p.m. CT. In addition, UICFlames.com will provide content throughout the day across social media platforms including: Instagram (@uicbasketball), Twitter and Periscope (both @UICFlamesMBB). The conference will also unveil the 2015-16 Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year, the Preseason All-League teams and the Preseason poll at the start of the festivities Wednesday afternoon.
Wiegand and Odiase are two of seven returning lettermen for the Flames. Wiegand made 20 starts for UIC as a junior in 2014-15, and he has played in 92 total contests entering his senior season. He is the team's leading returning rebounder after ranking 12th in the conference in the HL a year ago. Odiase begins his second season in a Flames uniform after playing in 28 games with 15 starts last year. The Glenwood, Ill., native finished second in the league in shot blocking as a first-year contributor with 1.7 swats per game., and his 48 total blocks marked the second-highest output ever by a UIC freshman.
Season tickets to catch the 2015-16 Flames and their exciting brand of basketball are on sale now. The squad will host 15 regular-season contests at the UIC Pavilion, and it will welcome Illinois to the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls, on Dec. 12.
