CHICAGO - The UIC women's soccer team (5-12-2, 2-6-1 HL) held strong but could not come up with the equalizer as it was edged by Milwaukee (11-3-3-, 8-0-1 HL), 1-0, in its season finale at Flames Field. At halftime, the Flames honored their first ever senior class in Ana Hernandez and Flo Beshiri.

Despite being outshot, 13-9, UIC was able to get good looks at the goal and put four of its attempts on net. Emily Wauer, Haley Kittle and Jasmin Carrera each had two shots on the night, with Kittle (2), Wauer and Olivia Everin getting the chances on goal.

The Flames put up a strong defensive front and held the Panthers without a shot in the first 20 minutes of play. The production balanced out and ended the first half with seven shots on each side.

Wauer had UIC's first look in the first minute and had her shot saved. In the 19th minute, Everin carried the ball and sent in a cross to Kittle, who swiped the ball but the Milwaukee keeper came up with the point-blank save.

In the 32nd minute, the Panthers' Anna Smalley broke down the field and dodged to the open net to score the game-winner. Everin tried to answer with a shot 30 seconds later but it was saved. The Flames had three looks in the final 10 minutes but the chances were either blocked or sent high.

It was a battle for possession in the second half with UIC responding in the final portion of play. The Flames were held to two shots while Milwaukee collected six attempts and had four within 15 minutes back from halftime with one blocked, one saved, another as a near miss that hit the crossbar and the last going wide.

UIC had one of its best chances of the game in the 69th minute, when Everin centered a pass to Carrera but her strike was blocked. The next and final attempt for the Flames was in the 79th minute as Kittle sent in a shot from distance that was saved.

Kelly Fritz played 59 minutes and made five saves before Hernandez entered to finish the game and did not need to make a single stop.

UIC concludes its second season with an overall improvement from the program's inaugural year. The Flames produced two more wins and shutouts than 2014, and established two more goals, four more assists and 52 more shots. They held opponents to nine fewer goals than last season as Fritz improved her goals-against-average from 1.98 to 1.65 and made 27 fewer saves.
