CHICAGO -- UIC began the final weekend of Horizon League play Friday night by hosting the Cleveland State Vikings at the Flames Athletic Center. The teams split the first two sets, but ultimately the Vikings secured the conference's regular-season championship with a 3-1 triumph (25-22, 17-25, 25-19, 25-22).

Entering the contest, UIC's Stephenee Yancy needed only 11 kills to reach 1,000 in a UIC uniform. The Aroma Park, Ill., native nearly doubled that number as she poured in a match-high 21 Friday. She hit .349 and also added a match-high six blocks for the Flames.

The first set went back and forth, featuring eight tie scores and a pair of lead changes. UIC tied the frame late at 21-21 after Alyssa Ehrhardt's fifth kill of the evening, but Cleveland State closed on a 4-1 run to extinguish the Flames, 25-21. Both Ehrhardt and Yancy picked up five kills in the first set.

With the score even at 7-7 in the second game, the Flames went on a three-point binge to take the lead for good. UIC pushed the advantage to as many as nine points at 21-12 before closing out a 25-17 triumph to even the match at a set apiece. The Flames hit .342 as a team in the second with 16 kills and only three errors. Yancy had eight more kills, including career No. 1,000, while Nicole Johnson assisted on 15 of the 16 terminations.

The third set was even at 16 points aside before CSU finished on a 9-3 run to take a 2-1 lead in the contest. After surrendering a very early 2-1 lead in the fourth, and final, frame, UIC never led again as it dropped the decision, 25-22.

UIC closes out the 2015 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. inside the FAC when it welcomes the Youngstown State Penguins to the Windy City. The Flames captured the first meeting between the two sides this season, 3-1, on Oct. 16.
