CHICAGO -- UIC newcomer Dikembe Dixson (Freeport, Ill./Mingo Central [Matewan, W. Va.]) was named the first Horizon League Freshman of the Week of the 2015-16 season, the conference announced Monday.
Dixson earned a starting nod from head coach Steve McClain in his first NCAA contest, and he did not disappoint. He paced the Flames with a team-high 13 points in his first collegiate game on Friday, Nov. 13 against the San Francisco Dons.
After being limited to only two points in 10 minutes of first-half action, the energetic Dixson came on strong in the second stanza. The Freeport, Ill., native went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc as he scored 11 points in 13 second-half minutes for the Flames. He also added two rebounds, a block and an assist in his collegiate debut on Friday.
Dixson and the rest of the Flames will next travel to Macomb, Ill. for a non-conference contest against the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Western Hall and the game will be streamed live on ESPN3.com and it will be heard on ESPN1000 Chicago.
