CHICAGO -- A professional basketball career looms for former UIC Flames standout Ahman Fells after he was selected by the Saint John Mill Rats in the National Basketball League of Canada draft last week. Fells was taken with the eighth pick of the third round on Nov. 28.
Fells had a strong senior season at UIC during the 2014-15 campaign. The Chicago, native averaged 7.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while leading the Flames in 3-point shooting percentage. He buried 29 triples on the year at a clip close to 40 percent. Fells really began to shine during Horizon League play when he upped his averages to 11.6 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
All told, Fells appeared in 87 games with 22 starts during his four-year UIC career. He shot 49.3 percent while averaging close to four points and two-and-half rebounds per tilt.
The NBL Canada season tips off on Saturday, Dec. 26 and continues with 40 games through the end of April. The league is in its fifth season.
