Final Results

CHICAGO - The UIC women's tennis team (3-6) played it first match of the season at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts on Sunday and came away with a 7-0 shutout win against Bowling Green (0-9). The Flames swept doubles and finished each singles match in straight sets.

UIC held the Falcons without a point as it posted two wins for the doubles point. Senior Keti Mebuke and sophomore Oana Manole defeated Megan Miller and Harley Hutchison at No. 1 and juniors Jackie Altansarnai and Ann-Sophie Hahn ousted Emily Witt and Brittany Plaszewski at No. 2, both coming as 6-0 results.

The third match at No. 3 featuring freshmen Bianca Zuzu and Melika LeBlanc went unfinished.

The Flames came out in singles to shut down Bowling Green in straight sets. Mebuke won both of her sets in the tiebreaker against Miller, 7-5, 7-6 (4), at No. 1. Altansarnai picked up her fifth win of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat over Hutchison at No. 2 and Manole bested Witt, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3.

UIC was able to cap off the win with victories in the final three positions. Hahn captured a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 against Plaszewski, Zuzu took down Leeah Floyd, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 5 and LeBlanc won a 6-0, 6-1 match at No. 6 against Antonina Farrar.

The Flames will kick off their conference season with a match at Valparaiso on Thursday at 2 p.m. CT at the Courts of Northwest Indiana.
