Final Results
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The UIC women's tennis team (2-5) suffered a 7-0 loss on Friday to Michigan State (10-2) at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts. Senior Keti Mebuke and sophomore Oana Manole each fell in the third set of their respective singles matches.
The Spartans came out with the doubles point after winning at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Mebuke and Manole dropped an 8-4 decision in the top spot to Erin Faulkner and Athena Trouillot, while freshmen Bianca Zuzu and Melika LeBlanc went down to Allie Baer and Catherine Parenteau, 8-1.
Juniors Jackie Altansarnai and Ann-Sophie Hahn had their match at No. 3 go unfinished.
In singles, Michigan State finished the sweep with wins at each position. Mebuke forced a third set in her match at No. 1 to Faulkner, but fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Manole also won her second set at No. 3 before going down in the final set to Aslina Chua, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Altansarnai was defeated at No. 2 by Lexi Baylis, 6-1, 6-0, and Hahn was taken out at No. 4 by Trouillot, 6-4, 6-3. Zuzu was ousted by Emily Meyers, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 and LeBlanc fell in the final slot to Baer, 7-5, 6-0.
The Flames are back on the courts on Saturday to face Eastern Michigan at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti, Mich., at noon CT.
